This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Engraver and painter Joseph Andrews was born in Hingham, Massachusetts. He served his apprenticeship under Abel Brower of Boston and then worked for William Hoogland. After study in Europe he became a portrait engraver. Andrews left the profession in the 1850s; at that time he became active in the Swedenborgian sect and devoted himself to religious writing.
