| John R. Baxter was born in San Francisco, CA on Jan. 1, 1912. Baxter received a B.A. degree from UCLA in 1933. A self-taught sculptor, he made assemblages of weathered stones and driftwood gathered on the beach. He was curator of education at the SFMA during 1956-59.
