This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Listed in the New York City directories from 1838 to 1849 and documented in California in 1851 to 1852 during the Gold Rush, John Cornell was assistant to George Heister in the painting of a panoramic Hudson River view. The work was exhibited in New York in December of 1849. Cornell was also an illustrator for a 1951 Boston publication titled Life in America.
