North Carolina painter Matt Cooper (b. 1960) is a storyteller, a narrator of the dark side of the human condition. His paintings question a great range of contemporary issues from racism, to isolation, to religious zealousness. In many instances he documents the human dramas that result from abuses of alcohol, drugs and power.
This African-American artist sees with great clarity and paints with deep potency what our society would often rather not see.
Cooper was born in (showing 500 of 1212 characters). |
