This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Philadelphia, Walter Leighton Clark was an engineer for 25 years who was also a painter. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy, where in 1928, he exhibited his work.

In 1922, he conceived the idea of a cooperative gallery, and he and other artists including John Singer Sargent founded the Grand Central Art Galleries. In 1928, he was also in the building of the American Pavilion at the Venice Biennale so that American artists could be represented at that event.
