| A student at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and Ohio State University, William Crawford became a cartoonist and in 1961 and 1962, was president of the National Cartoonists Society.
He became Chief Cartoonist of the Newark Evening News from 1938 to 1961 and in the 1960s and 1970s was chief editorial cartoonist of Newspaper Enterprise Association. He also taught at the Newark School of Fine and Applied Arts at Rutgers University.
