The 1995 Caldecott Committee described Diaz's work as "dramatic and ground breaking."
A professional illustrator, Diaz's work has appeared in Atlantic Monthly and the Washington Post. He has been honored for his work by Parent's Choice, American Illustration, Communication Arts, the American Institute of Graphic Arts and the New York Director's Club.
