This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Born in Boston, Massachusetts, William Doyle worked from there the remainder of his life and became noted for portraits in miniature, pastel, and crayon, as well as silhouettes and illustrations for books.
In 1796, he was first listed in the Boston Directory as a paper stainer, and then in 1803 was listed as a painter of miniatures. At that time, he joined with Daniel Bowen in the proprietorship of the Columbian Museum, which exhibited art, wax figures, and natural history specimens.
