| An artist who was born in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth French was a mural painter, sculptor, writer and decorator. Her paper-mache figures were in the Wilkes-Barre Sesquicentennial, and other decorations are in churches in Kingston and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She was an illustrator/cartoonist for the original Harpers Magazine. She also authored plays for children.
She lived primarily in Kingston and Chase, Pennsylvania. She studied with William Merritt Chase at the Pennsylvania Academy and with Charles Hawthorne in New York City and Provincetown. She exhibited with the Society of Independent Artists in 1923 and 1924. | |
