Kenneth M. Freeman (Mar 27, 1935 - May 29, 2008)

Education:
Age 8-17:  Studied art with Joseph DeSalvi and took art lessons at the Art Institute of Chicago

Attended American Academy of Art, in Chicago, IL,  during High School years on an Art Competition scholarship from Stanford University. (Studied under William Mosby and others).

Graduated from the American Academy of Art in 1954

Apprenticed with Haddon Sundblom

Influences: Rembrandt, Franz Hall, and John Singer Sargent

Mediums:  mostly oil and bronze: also pastel and conte’

Awards , Honors, Accolades:
1955: Annual Art Competition, International Ballet Club Artists League, Chicago: 3rd prize
1960: Placed in the Salmagundi Show in New York City and the Union League Club of Chicago
1961: Illinois State Fair, the Annual professional Art Exhibit, “Dori, portrait”, Honorable Mention
1981:  San Diego Museum of Fine Art “The Cowboy”; Best of Show; painting entitled "Helluva Good Morning"
1981,1984,1987,1991,2002, (five times), chosen artist for the Parada del Sol Rodeo in Scottsdale, AZ
1984 Helzapopin’ Rodeo artist, Buckeye, AZ
1987 artist for the 50th anniversary of the Orange Blossom Festival Rodeo in Davey, FL
1988 artist for the Prescott Centennial Rodeo, Prescott, AZ
1988 State of Arizona Department of State Assignment of Trade Name: “ Rembrandt of the Rodeo Circuit”
1992 Invitation by First Lady Barbara Bush to exhibit in an art show at the Smithsonian Institute , Native American Museum  
1999, 2000, 2001 artist for the Hashknife pony express Ride, Scottsdale, AZ. Posters have been made from the painting and sold in the post offices.(1999: “Holbrook Post Office”,2000: “Campin’ at The Verde”, 2001 “The Handoff”). Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona chose the 2000 and 2001 posters to be included in the Legacy Project, and  displayed  in the Library of Congress permanent art collection.
Book covers:  created paintings for Louis L'Amour (Fallon 1988 , Killo 1989,) Will James (Smoky the Cow Horse 1993), James Brown (The Outfit 1990) and other Western authors.
