Born in Germany on June 22, 1900, Oscar Fischinger was well known in his native land as an abstract film animator. About 1935 he came to Hollywood and soon began work on Disney's Fantasia.
Disillusioned when his contributions were misused, he turned to painting abstracts.
Fischinger died in Los Angeles on Jan. 31, 1967.
