| | Born in NYC in 1820. Freeman was active as a portraitist in NYC in 1844-49 and then worked in Indiana and Louisville. The Civil War years were spent in the South and, after the war, in Indianapolis. In 1875 Freeman moved to California and worked in Sacramento and San Francisco until 1880.
