Andrew Hill was known as an accomplished landscape painter and nature conservationist. Born in Porter County, Indiana in 1853, he journeyed to California through the Isthmus of Panama with his family in 1867, eventually settling in San Jose. Hill studied at Santa Clara College before deciding to move to San Francisco to study art. In San Francisco Hill attended the School of Design and also took private lessons with Louis Lussier and Virgilio Tojetti. Hill and Tojetti opened a portrait studio to (showing 500 of 1298 characters).
