BIOGRAPHY
Rick Walter Hansen was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota and spent most of his childhood growing up in the suburbs north of Minneapolis and St. Paul. He returned to St. Cloud to attend St. Cloud State University where he pursued both of this passions---painting and flying airplanes.
His painting instructors were Jerry Cutler and Lee Wallin, and he also attended a workshop that was taught by Gabriel Ladderman.
After graduation, he married Michelle Lutz and then went to work for the Federal Aviation Administration and painted as much as possible in his spare time.
He then joined the United States Air Force Reserve in 1983, and they sent him off to San Antonio, Texas for Officers Candidate School and then to Phoenix, Arizona for pilot training. He served nine years in the Air Force Reserve flying C 130s, and he then used the Air Force flight experience to get a job flying for American Airlines. In 1989, he moved back to the small town of Wyoming, Minnesota with his wife and two daughters.
During this time he was developing his unique style and taking portrait classes from Pat Jerde at the Minnesota River Valley School of Art as well as still life instruction from Jeff Larson and landscape classes from Joseph Paquet.
He has won many awards and exhibited in numerous national juried shows including ones at the Albuquerque Museum and Minnesota state fair.
