Biography from AskART:
| John Stuart Ingle, painter of ultra-meticulous watercolor still-lifes of fruit, glassware and crockery, was born in 1933. He describes his approach to painting: "I don't want to make arbitrary changes in what I see to paint the picture, I want to paint what is given. The whole idea is to take something that's given and explore that reality as intensely as I can."
Ingle received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting in 1964, and Master of Fine Arts degree in painting in 1966, both from the University of Arizona, Tucson. He taught studio art at the University of Minnesota, Morris from 1966 until his retirement as Professor in 2003.
John Camp has written a book about Ingle's work, The Eye and the Heart: The Watercolors of John Stuart Ingle, published by Rizzoli International Publications, Inc., in 1988. It includes an introduction by Frank H. Goodyear, Jr., president of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and author of Contemporary Realism since 1960.
