This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Jonathan M. Knight is a fine-art artist known mostly for his figurative, still life and landscape paintings.  Many of his paintings have allegorical meanings.  Knight was born in Daytona Beach, Florida, where he received his early foundation and inspiration to fine art.

As a child he was influenced to draw everyday by one of his older brothers (Stephen), who himself used to draw.  Knight's parents also encouraged him, beginning at the age of 3, to draw and paint watercolors of a variety of subjects, which continuously perfected his drawing and conceptual abilities.  He studied at the Daytona Beach Art League for several years under the instruction of London painter Lucy Petruzzelle, and American painter Don Emery.  He is a graduate of  The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, and also holds a Doctorate of Humane Letters degree from the college as well.  Knight also studied etching and printmaking at the Kansas City Art Institute.

Nature is his inspiration, and in his figurative works he depicts common people of all races.  Knight worked for a major greeting card company as an artist for a few years before leaving to pursue fine art full time.  His paintings have been featured in and on the cover of magazines including Watercolor Magazine, American Artist (featured on the cover in 1995 and 1999), Artist's Magazine, American Artist Review, and American Visions Magazine

Among his awards are the Grand National Watercolor Exhibition Arts In Mississippi Award, San Diego Watercolor Society's International Exhibition Award Of Excellence, Florida Miniature Art Society's International Exhibition Best of Show Award, and Arizona Aqueous XIX Best of Show Award.

His paintings are now in many permanent collections across the country such as the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art, Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, Jenkins House Museum, JM Family Enterprises, Inc., United Industries, Inc., Hallmark Fine Art Collections, Anheuser Busch Corporate Collection, Palm Beach International Airport Collection, Museum of African American Art, Miami, Overland Park Convention Center Fine Art Collection, and Sprint Corporation Fine Art Collection.

His work is part of the art collection on the yacht, Gallant Lady, owned by JM Family Enterprises, Inc. and is part of the Bill Cosby private collection.  He has also served as an exhibition juror.
