A landscape and genre painter specializing in scenes of North American Indians, Paul Kane was born in Mallow, County Cork, Ireland. He emigrated to Canada in 1819 as a child and studied at Upper Canada College in Toronto with Thomas Drury and in Europe between 1840 and 1845.
In 1836, he came to the United States where he worked as an artist until 1840 including some portraiture in Detroit, Michigan, and Mobile, Alabama. From 1845 to 1848, he sketched in western Canada, and about these ex (showing 500 of 10081 characters). |
