| A staff artist for the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, Robert Kane was born in New York City and spent most of his career there. However, from 1942 to 1944, he worked in East Africa as a Draftsman on the East Africa Project, and from 1945 to 1946, he served in the United States Navy.
Kane studied at Grand Central Art School and with Eric Pape, and in addition to working as a museum artist did fine art landscape painting and lithography.
