Amy Lewis was born in New Cambridge, Connecticut in May 1784, a daughter of Abel and Ruth Lewis, the owner of the Abel Lewis Inn. Some of her work including "In Memory of George Washington and Lady" was based on an 1804 print by Samuel Seymour of the same subject. She used strong colors of red, white, and blue in her composition.
Amy Lewis married Theodore Barnard in 1823 and the couple moved to Troy, New York in that same year. They had a daughter Ellen, who also did painting. According (showing 500 of 704 characters). |
