Biography from Wiford Gallery:
| Robert Lamb has been working as a sculptor for nearly fifty years. While doing commissioned work and sharing what he knows with others through sculpture classes, he has continually produced his own art ˆ drawings, paintings and sculptures ˆ based on the beauty of the human form.
He graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at King's Point in 1944, and served in the Merchant Marines throughout World War II. He then attended Rhode Island School of Design, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1952. He obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cornell University in 1954.
During his senior year at Rhode Island School of Design in 1952, he was hired to teach life drawing to sophomore and junior textile majors. He was a graduate assistant in sculpture at Cornell University from 1952 to 1954, then returned to RISD and taught sculpture there during the 1954-1955 academic year.
Robert Lamb continued teaching private classes in drawing and sculpture from 1957 to 1985. He returned to RISD as an instructor of lettering in the Freshman Foundation in 1965 and again in 1997 when he taught sculpture and letter carving in the Graphic Design Department.
In addition to solo shows in Providence, Bob has shown his work at the Wiford Gallery, Tonoff Gallery, Rhode Island College, Wellesley and Boston, and the Nexus Gallery. He has also exhibited in numerous group shows including The National Sculpture Society in New York City, RISD Museum of Art, and in galleries in Rockport, MA, and at Cornell University. His work is in many private collections including the Hirschhorn Collection in Washington DC.
