This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Barry Marshall, painter and sculptor, lives and works on the Monterey Peninsula.  He works in a style similar to the early California plein air-painters.  Landscapes and seascapes, of the Monterey Peninsula, have become his specialty.  Coming to California from Massachusetts, he has studied, painting, sculpture, figurative drawing, and printing at Cabrillo College, Orange Coast College, the Denver Art Student's League, Cape Cod School of Art, and the Montserrat School of Art.

His mother was a noted artist in the New England area, so Marshall developed a passion for this career at an early age.  He has studied oil painting under Robert Nally, Helen Van Wyck, David Curtis, Donald Stone, Paul Lavallee, Charles Vickery and George Gabin.

Marshall is currently a member of the Santa Cruz Art League, The National Society of Marine Painters, the Rockport Art Association, the North Shore Art Association, and the Denver Art League. He has exhibited with, and won awards in, all of these venues. He has been an annual exhibitor at the Carmel Art Festival in Carmel, California (one of the West Coast's most prestigious plein air competitions).

"When visiting the Monterey Peninsula, chances are you will see him along the rugged coast working his palette on the areas beautiful scenery".

Submitted by Gary Stanley, San Diego, California.
