This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following information is provided by the artist.

John McCormick was born in Salem, Massachusetts. From the age of four to the age of eleven, John lived in the village of McGraw's Cove, Nova Scotia. It was there that John discovered his love of fine arts. At age five, John began sketching sea gulls, boats, and shorelines.

After a semester at the Art Institute of Boston, John was drafted into the Army. In Vietnam, John applied for and received the job of Combat Artist, U.S. Army. Upon return to the U.S.A., John entered Montserrat School of Visual Arts and graduated in 1974.

In 1975 and 1976 John opened and managed Skystone Gallery in Manchester, Massachusetts. Then in 1986 John began to paint full time in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

After two years in Gloucester, John moved to northern California. There he was influenced by the works of the early California plein-air painters. Their loose brush stroke and impressionistic style excited his senses. In a few years, John found acceptance in some fine galleries.

John is now represented in Sonoma County, California; New York City; and Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
