Born on July 9, 1951, in Wycoff, New Jersey, John Phillip Osborne started painting at the age of 20. Osborne is both a teacher and painter of the American landscape "en plein aire." Placing an emphasis on how objects in nature are seen in various degrees of sunlight, Osborne works with oil paint to achieve light and shadow effects as they are seen in New Jersey, New England, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, and in Europe.
