This biography from the Archives of AskART:
From his studio in Caldwell, Texas, he creates bronze sculptures of waterfowl and also wildlife fountains.

Smith learned the art of woodcarving from his grandfather as a child in Montana. While in college at Montana State University he and his brother, Geoffrey, would carve wooden duck decoys. He felt limited by the medium and decided to try working in bronze.

Smith grew his business slowly and today he has an international clientele. He is known for his attention to detail and his research. Smith will only sculpt animals he has studied and observed. This philosophy has led him to create a migratory bird habitat on his ranch in Caldwell, Texas. He also travels extensively finding inspiration in the moments when wildlife can be observed in their natural habitats.
