Painter, commercial artist. Born in Oakland, CA on Dec. 3, 1892.
Stephens studied at UC, CCAC, Scripps College, CSFA, and in Paris at Académie Julian. Most of his career was spent in San Francisco where he was the founder and director of the Academy of Advertising Art until his retirement in 1952. Working in watercolor and pastel, he painted many scenes of San Francisco. He also contributed cartoons to the magazine Judge and illustrated books for New York publishing firms.
