| Born in Lexington, Virginia, Cy Twombly is one of the most significant American painters in the non-objective style of the 20th century. He is best known for his unique style of painting and drawing, which he developed during the 1950s. With pencil and crayon, he creates squiggles and calligraphic lines that have at times been described as 'doodle' art. The marks are lively and abstract, and occasionally erotic. Words and numbers are also incorporated in his work, and his titles often refer to R (showing 500 of 3795 characters). |
