| Born in China, ME on Dec. 17, 1868. Taylor came to California in 1886 and settled in Oakland. He established a chain of drug stores and, as a self-taught painter, began painting advertising cards for his stores. Upon retirement in 1925, he studied with Percy Gray and spent his final years painting watercolors and oils of the area around his home in Walnut Creek. He died there on May 6, 1960.
