This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Known for his nude-centric installations, that is arranged nude human bodies, Spencer Tunick of Brooklyn, New York has staged his work world wide. In Melbourne, Australia in 2002, police had to control the crowds while he completed his "body nude in public spaces" exhibit of 4500 hundred persons. It was part of a seven-continent tour that was documented in an HBO "Naked World". Themes are pornography, crime, death and celebration, and the goal is to complete the pose long enough for a photo shot. HIs theory is that the naked human body should be considered art and not crime.

Asked how he choose the countries where he installed these exhibitions, he said that he wanted to be in countries where he knew he would be arrested and could get out of jail within a few hours. He avoided China and Muslim countries, saying "Not in my lifetime."

HIs goal, according to him in 2002, is to stage "the body nude in public spaces" installation using 1000 persons.
