This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A noted wildlife artist, he had a career as a dentist for many years, having put himself through the University of Virginia by building boats. He later taught school and served in the Navy. At age 30, he enrolled in dental school and paid his tuition by selling ceramic and porcelain sculptures and then gradually switched to bronzes.

When his son Bill became a dentist, he turned the practice over to him and became a full-time sculptor, and now he and another son, David, work together as a team of sculptors. They have a business called Turner Sculptures and employ 25 people and have an on-site foundry. They publish a newsletter that goes to about 8000 people and through that as well as their gallery, make their sales. Two of their pieces are at the MacArthur Center in Norfolk, Virginia, commissioned by the developer A. Alfred Taubman who owns Sotheby's Auction House.

Bill, known as an outspoken, opinionated man, has also published two books of memoirs about growing up on the Eastern Shore and is planning another on building wooden boats.
