A landscape painter and pioneer of daguerreotype, Jacob Ward was born in 1809 in Bloomfield, New Jersey. He was the son of Caleb Ward, an artist, and the brother of Charles V. Ward, with whom he traveled to South America.
In 1820, he exhibited for the first time at the National Academy of Design, where he continued to show his work sporadically. In the 1830s he drew illustrations for the medical texts of David Hosack, and also went into Virginia where he painted the Natural Bridge. In abo (showing 500 of 2708 characters). |
