The following was submitted by Bob Stone, friend of the artist, from artist’s own biographical information and interviews.
Martin Weekly was born Exeter, California, in 1936. He graduated from Exeter High School and received a degree in art from Sacramento State University in 1964. During the 1960's Weekly taught high school art in the public school system. Beginning in 1970 he devoted himself full time to his painting while living in a home and studio he built for himself in El Dorado Hills, California.
From 1988 to 1966, Martin and his late wife, Pat, owned a gallery in Carmel, California, where he exhibited his work and that of a few others. During this period Martin turned more and more to painting on location. The bulk of his work continues to be California landscapes in the plein air Impressionist style.
Martin Weekly has exhibited in numerous galleries and shows throughout the West. He has had solo exhibits at two public venues, the Tulare Historical Museum, Tulare, California, in 2004; and Arts Visalia, Visalia, California, in 2005.
Currently Martin serves as a director of the Courthouse Gallery in Exeter, and divides his time between his hometown of Exeter and Morro Bay, California. He is listed in Davenport’s Art Reference and Price Guide, and Samuels’ Contemporary Western Artists.
