In addition to its existing gallery at 225 Canyon Road, Altermann Galleries now has a permanent facility in which to hold its auctions at 345 Camino del Monte Sol, between Canyon Road and Acequia Madre. The 5000 square foot building with a 2600 square foot, high-ceiling auction room was originally built by La Union Protectiva an Hispanic fraternal society. “We are honored and delighted” stated Richard Altermann, “to be in a structure that was once the center of neighborhood activity. We are also fortunate to have a building that has seventy parking spaces, a rarity in the historic district of Santa Fe”.
When asked the question as to why the expansion during an economic downturn? Richard Altermann responded, “You don’t pass up an opportunity to conduct business in such a fine and accessible facility. Also, having been involved in the auction business for 35 years we have found that there is a need for an auction in both good and bad times. In fact some of the Galleries’ best auctions have taken place immediately following a recession.
Altermann Galleries offers a variety of items at its auctions including Western and Wildlife art, Native American jewelry, textiles and pottery, firearms and decorative art. The diverse list of artists offered include Andy Warhol, Remington, Russell, Bugatti, the Taos School, Gustave Baumann, Patrocino Barela, Freemont Ellis, Rod Goebel, Glenna Goodacre, G. Harvey, William Pennhallow Henderson, Clark Hulings, Wilson Hurley, F.T. Johnson, Maria Martinez, Frank McCarthy and Lu Ann Tafoya to name a few. |
