Etcher, illustrator, cartoonist, painter, teacher. Born in Blairstown, IA on Aug. 9, 1889.
Sooy studied at the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts and Columbia University under Arthur Dow. In 1912 she joined the art faculty at UCLA and taught there until retirement in 1955. She was also nationally known as an authority and author of several books on costume design. While visiting Hawaii in 1929, she was a cofounder of a women's art group called The Seven.
