Born in Germany, George Adomeit came to the United States with his family in 1883, settling in Cleveland, Ohio where he supported himself as a commercial artist and printmaker. He trained in commercial printing, studied at the Cleveland School of Art, and had a successful printing company known as the Caxton Press.
He emerged in the 1920s as one of the region's leading painters of American Scene genre, especially known for industrial subjects. Many of his pictures are in the Cleveland Mu (showing 500 of 1888 characters). |
