This biography from the Archives of AskART:

Born in New York City, Irma Cavat studied at the New School of Social Research, the Archipenko Art School, and the Academy Grande Chaumiere, Paris. She was also a student of Hans Hofmann. From 1964, she was professor of painting and drawing at the University of California at Santa Barbara and continues to live there.
