Benjamin James Bowen — painter of genre scenes, portraits, and animals
— was born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 1, 1859, and died in
Lausanne, Switzerland in 1930. Although he lived Kairouan,
Tunisia for a while and had a studio in Europe from 1898, Bowen always
retained a residence in Boston.
