| Christine Abel, known as a painter, educator, sculptress, and designer, spent most of her artistic career in California. She was born in Maxwell, California, and became a teacher from 1938-1950s at Glendale High school and Chouinard Art Institute.
Abel settled in Santa Barbara in 1956, after completing a long period of studies at many top institutions including Schaeffer School of Design, Columbia University, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Chouinard and the California School of Fine Art where her work was exhibited in 1924 earning her a prize. She remained in Santa Barbara until her death in 1970.
