Mrs. Alphonsine Thuot Ernst began her artistic training in 1892 when she studied with a Mr. Dunning of Fall River, Massachusetts where she and her family lived. Just before the turn of the century she began her career as a professional artist in New York City.
She worked in the photographic studio of Ira Hill and Walter Pach as a re-toucher and while there, she continued with her self-taught painting, receiving guidance from George DeForest Brush and William Merritt Chase who had studios (showing 500 of 3102 characters). |
