This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Growing up in San Francisco's Chinatown in the 1950s and 60s, he was exposed to a variety of cultures that are reflected in his art work. In the 1980s, he went to New York and lived in the East Village and made large acrylic paintings in series that included depictions of Lower East Side storefronts, prisoners, and firemen.
His most ambitious project was "Chinatown U.S.A." celebrating the San Francisco Chinese culture of the 1940s. In the late 1990s, after a period of inactivity, he created paintings of cacti and succulents from his mother's garden. |
