From Louisville, Kentucky, Gaela Erwin is a pastelist, primarily portraits,
who often works on sanded papers and museum board. She began
painting as a child, and, coming from a family of undertakers, she
chose a skull as the subject of one of her first paintings.
she is a graduate of the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus,
Ohio, and the University of Louisville in Kentucky. In 2005, she
was an artist-in-residence at St. Francis School in Louisville.
