Landscape painter of New York City, 1856-1860. Robert Pyne exhibited views of the Catskills and Berkshires of New York and Massachusetts at the National Academy of Design, 1861-1897. Like many of the Hudson River School he helped to establish a true painting tradition in the United States.
Pyne is most known for his beautiful sunset scenes that are very reminiscent of the European romantic landscape and by an almost religious reverence for the magnificence of the American wilderness. < (showing 500 of 841 characters). |
