This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| An early 20th-century illustrator working in New York City, Lawrence L Wilbur should not be confused with Lawrence Newlson Wilbur.
Note submitted March 2005 from Clare Ivey Colton. Lawrence L Wilbur painted portraits in addition to illustrations. In the 1950's Wilbur painted a large and beautiful portrait of my mother, Evelyn P. Ivey, a New Jersey physician. The portrait now hangs in my home and bears Wilbur's signature with the oblique line below it. I remember going with her when she sat for Wilbur and I believe his studio was in New Jersey. My memory is that he was well known in northern New Jersey/NYC area for his portraits at that time.
