The daughter of Nampeyo (The Old Lady) of the Third Mesa in Arizona, Fannie Nampeyo was a very prolific potter almost to her death. Her birth date is approximately 1900, but is unknown for sure.
She began making pottery when she was in her early 20s and teamed with her mother. She was also the matriarch of the Corn Clan, a time-consuming ceremonial position among her people and developed a tamale business in Keams Canyon that was very successful. She raised seven children, became a devout (showing 500 of 1347 characters). |
