This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| An emigrant from England to Maryland in 1844, John Moran settled in Philadelphia where he became an advocate for photography as art. His landscape photographs appeared as frontispieces in Wilson's "Philadelphia Photographer" from 1864 to 1866. He also did stereoviews, some of them in the Isthmas of Panama. He was the brother of Thomas, Edward and Peter Moran and like them, also did painting.
