Professor of Fine Art and Architecture at the University of Minnesota from 1914, Samuel Burton was also a painter, sculptor, lithographer and etcher. He did numerous etchings in Spain, and was the author and illustrator of a book (1937) titled Spain Poised, Etchings of Spain.
He studied in Paris at the Academie Julian with Jean Paul Laurens. Memberships included the Minneapolis Art Association and the Chicago Society of Etchers.
