Born in New Orleans, Virginia Clark became a painter and illustrator, especially known for portraits and her illustrations in her "Live Doll Series". She studied at the Indiana School of Art with William Forsyth, the Art Students League with Kenyon Cox, and with illustrator Howard Pyle in Philadelphia.
She lived in Chicago, New York City, Mackall, Maryland, and Winter Park, Florida. Clark summered in the town of Southwest Harbor Maine for many years.
