This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Naples, Italy, Umberto Romano spent his career between New York City and Gloucester, Massachusetts. He studied at the National Academy of Design.

He illustrated Dante's "Divine Comedy," and from 1933 to 1940, was director of the Worcester, Massachusetts Art Museum School, and from 1933 to 1960, was director of the Romano Art School at Gloucester.
