Peter Roos (Swedish-American, 1850-1919)

Peter Roos was born in Sweden on February 22, 1850. He came to the United States in 1872 and became known as a landscape and portrait painter and an art teacher. He painted numerous scenes including a number of canvases depicting the western part of America. For twenty-three years he was director of the Cambridge Public School’s Art Program.

Roos was a member of the Boston Art Club and was awarded a medal for merit in 1874. He exhibited at the BAC again in 1882 and from 1895-1898. He lived most of his professional career in Malden, MA and he died in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1919.
