This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Painter Ron Kleemann was born in Bay City, Michigan in 1937. He received his B.S. in Design from the College of Architecture and Design at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1961.
Initially a sculptor, his work as a painter moved, since 1967, from a geometric, hard-edged style and shaped canvases, to his version of Photo-Realism. He initially created a surrealistic Photo-Realism with several images of vehicles combined with close-ups of human anatomy in a kind of painted collage. He later moved to paintings of all kinds of racing boats, motorcycles, cars and airplanes -- and their insignia -- which Kleemann sees as evidence of masculinity.
He created a conceptual racing team for the Indianapolis 500 car race, which led to his being named official artist of the event.
