Joseph Wolins was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1915. He studied at the National Academy of Design from 1935 to 1941 under Leon Kroll. While studying in Europe in 1937, he was particularly influenced by the Italian painters Piero della Francesca, Mantegna and Giotto. The Paris Exposition of 1937 afforded a unique opportunity to study Modern European Painting.
Wolins was one of the New York area artists associated with the W.P.A. Art Project, 1935-1941. (showing 500 of 752 characters). |
